The Effect of family functioning of families with developmental disordered children on mothers' psychological well-being : focusing on the mediation effect of social support

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of family functioning of families with developmental disordered children on mothers' psychological well-being, and examine whether social support had a mediation effect between two variables. In order to fulfill the purpose, the survey was conducted with 343 mothers having children with developmental disorders. The results founded by using confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling are as follows: First, family functioning of families with developmental disordered children influenced positively social support. Second, family functioning of families with developmental disordered children had a positive effect on mothers' psychological well-being. Third, family functioning of families with developmental disordered children directly influenced mothers' psychological well-being and its' effect was indirectly mediated by social support that their friends, relatives, and professional groups provided. The results verified that family functioning of families with developmental disordered children and social support were the important factors which significantly influenced on mothers' psychological well-being.
